When the production of the Xbox almost started in 1998, the project was codenamed as "Midway". [1]
DirectXbox[]

LOGO MISSING |
During its early development, the system was called the DirectX-box, referring to its reliance on DirectX.[1]
Xbox[]
1999–2000 (prototype)[]
In late 1999, the name was shortened to just "Xbox". This logo was used in the Alpha Tower I and II computer models that would help develop the console.[2] It was also seen in one of the console prototype models.[3]
2000 (GDC 2000)[]
When the console was announced, the "Xbox" wordmark was replaced with a glowing green "X" symbol. This logo is extremely rare and it only appeared at the Game Developers Conference on March 10, 2000.[4] It also appeared in an interview with Bill Gates, where it can be seen on a monitor screen in the background.[5]
2001–2009[]

Microsoft revealed a new logo on September 20, 2000 (although the wordmark was already seen in one of the console prototype models[3]), which was used officially when the console was released on November 15, 2001. [6] On June 4, 2006, the Xbox was discontinued in Japan, followed by Europe on March 11, 2007 and North America on March 2, 2009. Support for Xbox Live on the console ended on April 15, 2010.
2005–2008[]
The 360 logo was used on a few games for the original Xbox near the end of its run such as the Burger King games, the demos that come with the magazine prior to the Xbox 360's release as well as the holograms on the discs and seals from 2005–2007. It went off at 2008 and was replaced by Xbox 360. However, the Xbox 360 was launched after the Xbox console had a new logo.
