Following a takeover bid from Paternoster Stores Ltd. in 1982, Woolworth stores in Britain were given a refresh starting from 1985. The new branding, initially codenamed 'Operation Focus' was accompanied by the removal of the retailer's least popular lines and change in name. The name, as a result, was changed to "Woolworths". All stores had received the new look by 1990.
The logo was used in tandem with the 2004 logo until all Woolworths stores were closed in 2009.
Woolworths went into administration on 26th November 2008. By January 2009, all of their stores were closed.
Woolworths briefly used this logo from September to Christmas 2008.
