In 2007, WWE officially introduced the digital lottery format which would see the picks chosen in a computer-generated draft format. With this, they introduced the very first WWE Draft logo, which was used until the last draft of the first brand extension, which itself ended in 2011.

From 2012-2015, the WWE Draft did not occur. On June 20th, 2016, WWE announced that the draft would return during the upcoming brand extension between RAW and SmackDown.

In 2017, WWE ditched the "Draft" name, less than a year after reintroducing the brand extension, and was renamed the Superstar Shake-Up. This came after rumors of Vince McMahon apparently hating the word "draft", hence why the name change was done.

2018–2019[]
