WBSG became a WB affiliate for the Jacksonville area in 1995. In 1996, Coastal Com signed an agreement with the Allbritton Communications Company to manage channel 21 under a local marketing agreement. However, Coastal Com planned to sell channel 21 to Allbritton outright.

1997–2000[]

In 1997, WBSG joined ABC due to a group affiliation deal involving ABC and WBSG parent Albritton, taking the affiliation away from WJKS-TV (channel 17, now WCWJ). Because of the new ABC affiliate's signal reach, Allbritton launched a new station in Jacksonville, WJXX (channel 25), which would air ABC shows alongside WBSG. WJKS then took over The WB and was renamed to WJWB.

2000–2001[]

In 2000, Allbritton sold WJXX to WTLV (channel 12) owner Gannett (now Tegna) and became the sole ABC affiliate in the area. As a result, WBSG became and affiliate of the PAX network (later to be known as Ion Television). In September of that same year, WBSG was sold to Paxson Communications (now Ion Media) and became an O&O station of the PAX network.
