WMHX signed off in 1991 due to the financial difficulties of the parent organization.
From 1989 to 1991, the logo was changed to reflect only WHMX, with the station's channel number 45 added and the color of the orb changed to dark blue.

After two years off-air, channel 45 returned in 1993 as secondary PBS member station WMHQ. WMHQ's schedule consisted of instructional programming and repeat airings of programs that had previously run on WMHT.

WMHQ was purchased in 1999 by Tribune Broadcasting. Tribune converted the station back to commercial operation as a WB affiliate (it had always operated with a commercial license, as opposed to a noncommercial educational license.)

In August 2010, WCWN changed its branding to "CW 15" (in reference to its cable position on channel 15 throughout the Capital Region), adopting a logo identical to that used at the time by WLYH (now WXBU) in Lebanon, Pennsylvania.
