On January 28, 2013, Fox Television Stations Group announced that it would purchase WJZY and WMYT-TV from Capitol Broadcasting Company for $18 million. As a result, WCCB will lose its Fox affiliation to one of those stations upon the July 1 expiration of its current affiliation agreement with the network. On April 18, 2013, WCCB announced it will affiliate with The CW.

In February, WCCB gradually began to remove Fox network references from on-air use during their newscasts. A play button briefly replaced the Fox logo in one on-screen graphic before the branding was changed to WCCB News. In late March, the station rebranded as "WCCB Charlotte".
