Sony began making computers shortly before Windows 98 was released. In the US, they launched it as Vaio, making PCs with the Pentium 2 processor. Now, their PCs are used in model-remniscense of the Sony Xperia.

In February 2014, Sony sold its Vaio PC business to Japan Industrial Partners, which owns 95% of the company, with Sony keeping a 5% stake.
