This version of the logo, shown here in black-and-white, was used in color (and then had an overall blue coloration) when used with animated-cartoon short subjects.
This version largely survived NBC's merger with Universal mostly intact. The above image is how the logo appeared in a December 21, 1996 issue of Billboard magazine. Its onscreen counterpart was introduced the following year.
This version, released January 10, 2012, celebrates Universal's 100th anniversary. The logo made its film debut in Dr. Seuss's The Lorax. A variant of this logo, without the "100th Anniversary", was seen at Universal's Cinematic Spectacular: 100 Years of Movie Memories," and is expected to debut on Universal films in 2013 or earlier.
The logo is bylineless and the camera zooms-in to Boston on the globe, bringing forth the Media Rights Capital logo. Shown on a trailer for Ted (2012).
