The logo for the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, or UN Women for short, was unveiled on January 25, 2011 by the entity's executive director Michelle Bachelet during a press briefing in New York.
- "The logo plays off the familiar women’s symbol, but with alterations. The additional horizontal cross bar forms an equal sign, while the round shape of the women’s symbol contains the globe. This hybrid creates a new symbol to convey the message of equality for women worldwide. The two sides of the logo are differentiated by colour to represent men and women, joined by the equal symbol." - UN Women news article
