New Logo Section

Well, right now, the right column of the main page of the Wiki is huge and I think every month, after six logos are made for the new month and added to the front page, the oldest month with the recent logos should be removed to keep the lag down and also clutter (since it's also not 100% new anymore). What the main page looks like in the new skin.

With the new skin which was launched this week, the Recent logos column should only take up slightly more than 50 percent of the main page width for all users. I have tried out designs with smaller columns, but they generally look worse. With the current system, this column contains the logos presented this month, and the two months preceeding it.

The oldest month is automatically removed at the beginning of each new month. The recent logos column demands a bit of work, and I think people would hesitate from contributing to it if it gets a less prominent place on the main page and the work dissappears to rapidly.

One reason the column is a bit bloated right now is that late August and September could accurately be called "rebrand season", because this is a good time to launch new rebrands. You will find that we will have less rebrands in October, November and December and that the column will become smaller over time. Väsk 08:34, October 8, 2010 (UTC)

Random logo is now centered. For some reason, the images in Template:Multimedia2 were left aligned, changed it to center, problem solved. The text issue should just be some border parameters. Temp patched the paragraphs with a : to make an indent but that only fixes it if all the text is on one line. Izzyfan, I'll leave the rest to you, since I don't know what 0em means on some of the code (I know about old style HTML more than I do CSS, I'm afraid). Digifiend 00:28, April 17, 2012 (UTC)

The "Recent logos" section must be two columns, or it'll get way to long. We can't have a main page design that doesn't address that. Making up sections to fill up the blank space is simply a bad idea. As the new design was introduced without discussion, there shouldn't be any issue with reverting back to the old one. The primary objective behind the redesign seems to have been to introduce a slider to the front page, so I've worked that into the old design. Väsk 08:59, April 17, 2012 (UTC)

Väsk has the right idea, it needs at least some more discussion. It's still not got any better, the 'Recent Logos of April' is going to grow with that becoming long, it also does not help that there is an advert above it for people who don't use ad-blockers, thus meaning it is not inline with the slider and produces a large white space underneath it. Expanded Wiki Navigation

I've activated the Expanded Wiki Navigation feature because it'll be mandatory from October 3. It can have drop down lists enabling more options. Admins, we need to discuss how to alter it. Can I just say, that the Month tabs just fit on the top row, however when it comes to January, December, November, October and September, their may be some overhang their.

I see that a christmas design has made its way to the front page of Logopedia today! I see that the logo slideshow on the front page is still scrolling through as Cartoon Network, Travel Channel, NBC & Del Monte, when is this sceduled for a change? Maybe include the new look of ITV?

Packaging Pedia

I started a wiki called the Packaging Pedia . Logopedia gave me this idea but instead of logos, it for things like how Coke cans have changed .I need help trying to build the site.Would anybody like to check it out or help contribute. ImageTOC issues

The ImageTOC-X templates are acting rather strangely (see here and here for two examples), generating links that seem to operate as normal but they are rendered as redlinks. Can anyone shed any light on what's causing this and what I can do about it? Malpass (talk) 22:38, May 6, 2013 (UTC)

Titles

After seeing edits like this one, I thought now would be a decent opportunity to decide once and for all how sections should be titled. Should the word "present" be added to the end of section titles for current logos? Does it matter what type of dash is used? How specific is the date in the title allowed to be (in other words, can we use months/dates in the titles)? Cheers! Malpass (talk) 20:39, May 19, 2013 (UTC)

I think using 'present' is fine.
A '–' (en dash) is the correct version to use, however not every person has access to this from a standard Windows keyboard, and so some (me included) will use '-' (hyphen-minus)
I think we should stick to just years in the headers, but include the day and months in a small paragraph underneath, as this is far more cleaner since there are at least three different date formats:
- 'D M Y' (1 January 1900-31 December 1900).
- 'M D, Y' (January 1, 1900-December 31, 1900).
- 'Y M D' (1900 January 1-1900 December 31).
However the Gap article brings up the use of really short lived logos.

Nectar Card as a category

I don't know where you stand on this but I feel that Nectar Card should be listed as a category. The reason why I think this is because Nectar Card own/have owned so many brand names (i.e. Sainsbury's, BP, Ford, confused.com, eBay, Oxfam, Homebase). Logo pages without description

That's normal. This wiki's intention is to chronicle the evolution of logos. The only description needed is the dates the logo was used for, and maybe the circumstances behind each change. For example, if a logo was created because two companies merge, we note this on the page. If people want detailed descriptions of the item the logo belongs to, that's Wikipedia's job. Since the success we have had with notices strongly discouraging uploads titled "File:200px-filename.png" and the total eradication of "File:Untitled.png"-style titles, can we also forbid the upload of files ending in ".svg.png"? Images uploaded in this way are improperly uploaded SVGs, and once they get replaced by the actual SVG, they become useless. Themes

Does the upper limit of twelve images per theme (as mandated here) still apply? The reason I ask is because some have far more than that (NBC Universal's has 41, for example) while others could have more if allowed. Malpass (talk) 17:49, April 18, 2014 (UTC)

Obsession with new Logopedia logos

I know this is a website for logo fanatics but why does almost everyone, expecially new members, want to change the Logopedia logo? The one used at the moment is perfect; simple and isn't biased to any particular company. Please keep it as it is, any new logo will not be as good. Issue w/ category pages

When you're in a category page e.g.: the Internet category page and the pages are shown as square buttons, they don't always show the newest logo. It more likely they show a older logo or a quote from the page. Is their a way to change this yourself?

Please Stop Stealing Namco / Bandai Namco related logos

I've noticed a lot of logos from Namco and Bandai Namco games are being stolen from [1]. I would advise that whoever keeps stealing these logos should at least give a link to his page, as he's getting really irritated seeing logos that he worked hard on getting used without leaving a link to his page.
