In May 2006, News Corporation acquired Turner South, and rebranded the network as "SportSouth" that October (a name also used by an unrelated network launched in 1990 by Turner Broadcasting System and sold to News Corporation in 1996 to become Fox Sports South); as a result, the channel dropped all non-sports programming from its schedule and became strictly a regional sports network.
