1873 - 1968
The first shop opened on Charles Street, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England in 1873.
Before the national 'Cloverleaf' logo was introduced in 1968, the Portsea Island Mutual Co-operative society (or PIMCO as it was sometimes known as) logo varied significantly from shop to shop. Therefore there was no single official logo.
1968 - 1993
Most Co-operative societies adopted the then new national 'Cloverleaf' logo in 1968.
1993 - 1998
Before 1998, The Southern Co-operative was known as The Portsea Island Mutual Co-operative who, before 1993, used the 1968 national Co-op logo.
1998 - 2003
In 1998 the Portsea Island Mutual Co-operative society changed its name to The Southern Co-operative. Some early rebranded shops used this red and yellow version of the logo.
2003 - 2008
In 2003 the branding was refreshed. The rather dated green was replaced by silver. However, some shops still had the old green logo until 2010 when these branches received the 2009 logo.
2008 - 2009
Some shops began using a simplified version of the 1998/2003 logo which just uses the 'Seagull' text.
2009 - Present
In 2009 The Southern Co-operative began using the national branding introduced in 2007, some shops display the name of the town it which it is situated in, instead of 'food'. The logo below is the corporate logo and is not used on the shop fascias.
