With the merger of Südwestfunk and Süddeutscher Rundfunk into Südwestrundfunk in 1998, Südwest 3 was renamed Südwest Fernsehen (later SWR Fernsehen in 2006). At the same time Saarländischer Rundfunk launched its own service named SR Südwest Fernsehen (later SR Fernsehen) in cooperation with Südwestrundfunk.

SWF and SDR merged on September 1, 1998 to form SWR. At the same time, Südwest Fernsehen got a new look, designed by X-tension.[1]

SWR Fernsehen Horizontal

Südwest Fernsehen became SWR Fernsehen on September 11, 2006. The new look was designed by Medienhaus Baden-Baden.[2]
