RCTI was founded in 1987 and began its broadcast on November 13, 1988 using a set-top box. The station was officially launched on August 24, 1989 as a pay television network. In August 1990, RCTI began broadcasting to all over Indonesia and instead of using a set-top box, RCTI began terrestrial broadcasting. On August 24, 1990, RCTI founded SCTV in Surabaya to relay RCTI programmes and in 1991, RCTI realized it after RCTI expand its broadcast to Bandung on May 1, 1991.
On August 24, 1991, the logo was slightly updated. On August 24, 1993, RCTI, along with SCTV, began broadcast nationally.
The most familiar and long-lived logo of RCTI was launched on the 11th anniversary of RCTI called Satu Indonesia Satu, on August 24, 2000.
The logo was straightened for the first time in almost 15 years, on May 20, 2015, at 12 am Western Indonesian Time.
