Q-music started broadcasting nationally in Belgium on November 12, 2001 at 6 o'clock. Two months earlier, together with 4fm (later Joe), the broadcaster had been recognized as a national commercial radio by the Flemish Community. To gain radio experience, the VMMa (now called DPG Media) worked with local radio stations for TopRadio and Radio Mango until 2003. On August 31, 2005 at around 8:30 p.m, almost four years following its success in Belgium, the station started broadcasting in the Netherlands, replacing Noordzee FM, almost two months after De Persgroep (which changed its name to DPG Media in 2019) took over the aforementioned station's cable and ether frequencies from Talpa Radio for a symbolic amount of one euro.
