Intel Pentium is a 5th generation of x86 processors, replacing the Intel i486 line.
1993–1998[]
The processor was originally named as Intel i586 but it was difficult to trademark a series of numbers in a branding. As a result, Intel decided to hire a marketing firm Lexicon Branding to name the new processor, now branded as Pentium. The processor was introduced on March 22nd, 1993, but didn't have a sole logo until 1994. In 1998, Intel stopped producing/shipping the original Pentium processor and was replaced by the Intel Pentium II.
