Hotmail was launched on July 4, 1996. Its original name and capitalization refers to HTML, the encoding language used by the World Wide Web.
Hotmail was sold to Microsoft in December, 1997 and soon in November, 1998, after it was added to the MSN group of services, it was renamed MSN Hotmail.
As a result of the new MSN logo, the Hotmail logo has also changed
Windows Live Mail (beta)
In November 2005 the new Windows Live services was launched. Windows Live Mail replaced MSN Hotmail and started its time in beta form.
Windows Live Hotmail
In February 2007, the Hotmail name returned thus became Windows Live Hotmail. It is now integrated into the new Windows Live services and has replaced MSN Hotmail.
With the release of Windows Live Wave 4 update in mid 2010, Hotmail got a new logo along with other Live services.
All Windows Live services are rebranded to Microsoft services as Microsoft decides to end the Windows Live brand.
This logo did not replace the mark above it, but was used as a transition mark while Outlook.com was still in beta throughout the second half of 2012 and the beginning of 2013.
2012–presentMicrosoft Outlook, the Office application. It phased out Hotmail on May 3, 2013.
