Optare is a British Bus manufacturer owned by Ashok Leyland. It was formed by former employees of the former Charles H. Roe bodywork building company which was closed by Leyland in 1984. It is ironic that eighteen years later, Optare would in a sense be controlled by Leyland as part of its successor, Ashok Leyland.

In 2012, Ashok Leyland increased its number of shares in Optare and became the main shareholder. As a result, the 'An Ashok Leyland Company' byline was added to the Optare logo.
