The "McLaren Crest" was designed by Michael Turner in 1964. A kiwi appeared on this logo, being the national bird of New Zealand, which is the birthplace of Bruce McLaren, who is the founder of the team.

In 1965 the "crest" evolved to the infamous "Speedy Kiwi", a more stylized version of the bird. It was used until 1980. It came back as an alternate when team ownership was changed in 2017.

In 1997 the longest ever sponsorship deal in Formula 1 history ended, McLaren moved from Marlboro to West, another tobacco company. McLaren's red swoosh got a modern update, to separate it from the Marlboro logo.
