Kmart Australia - 1969

Kmart's Oceania chain was a joint venture between America's Kmart Corporation and local company G.J. Coles & Coy Ltd. In 1983, Coles would open Australia's first hypermarket, Super Kmart, the name used for combined Kmart and grocery stores until 1990 when low sales saw it split into smaller Kmart stores and Coles New World supermarkets.

Kmart Old logo

In September 1992, the logo was tweaked: the "K" was lengthened, the word "mart" was changed to a new italic font, and the black lines were removed. Despite being replaced as the main logo, this logo still appears in Kmart stores in Australia. A yellow variant of this logo was used by the United States version of Kmart for store closure signs.
