1984–1989[]

Channel 69 in San Diego began broadcasting on September 30, 1984 as an independent station known as KTTY. The station was originally owned by San Diego Television.

1989–1995[]

On February 2, 1994, San Diego Television filed for bankruptcy. During January of 1995, channel 69 became a WB affiliate.

1995–1996[]

KTTY 1995

At that time, KTTY was located on channel 14 on cable providers on the area. On April 19, 1996, Tribune Broadcasting assumed control of channel 69 after a bidding war with United Television.

KSWB-TV[]

1996–2006[]

Kswb5 sandiego

On September of that same year, channel 69 was renamed to the current KSWB callsigns. Tribune moved KSWB's cable channel number to channel 5 and displaced Los Angeles sister station KTLA from cable providers in that area.

2006–2008[]

KSWB was selected as the CW affiliate for the San Diego area in 2006.

2008–present[]

KSWB 1

On August 1, 2008, KSWB-TV swapped network affiliations with Tijuana-based XETV (channel 6) as a result of an affiliation agreement signed earlier that year between Tribune Broadcasting and Fox; on that date, KSWB-TV became a Fox affiliate, while XETV took over the CW affiliation for the San Diego-Tijuana market.
