KMYS originally signed on the air on November 6, 1985 as KRRT, an independent station owned and operated by the TVX Broadcast Group.

1986–1993[]

KRRT standalone

KRRT became one of the original charter Fox affiliates on October 9, 1986. Paramount Pictures purchased a stake in TVX in two phases from 1989 to 1991, which would later become the Paramount Stations Group.

1995–1998[]

Krrt

KRRT switched affiliation from Fox to UPN as a charter O&O station when it launched on January 16, 1995, while the Fox affiliation was moved to KABB. During this logo's run, Paramount/Viacom would sell the station to Jet Broadcasting which would operate the station under a LMA with River City (owners of KABB). River City was later sold to the Sinclair Broadcast Group in 1996. Glencairn, Ltd (now Cunningham Broadcasting, a partner company of Sinclair) would purchase KRRT in 1998.

1998–2006[]

KRRT switched affiliation from UPN to The WB on January 25, 1998, as part of a greater deal between KRRT's owners, Sinclair and the network itself. UPN was then moved to secondary with KMOL (channel 4, now WOAI-TV).

2006–2010[]

KMYS My 35 San Antonio

In 2006, it was selected to be the San Antonio affiliate of MyNetworkTV and the call letters changed to KMYS on June 19, 2006.

2010–2021[]

The CW 35

On August 30, 2010, the station became the area's affiliate for The CW after its charter San Antonio affiliate, KCWX took over MyNetworkTV.
