1995-1996 (Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.0)

1996-1997 (Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0)

This is the first logo to include the famous IE logo.

1997-2001 (Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 - 5)

In Internet Explorer 5.0, the famous logo was now fully implemented everywhere. This logo is similar to the present logo, except for the design.

2001-2006 (Microsoft Internet Explorer 6)

This is a 3D version of the former logo. Internet Explorer 6 is the last version of Internet Explorer to be called Microsoft Internet Explorer due to the MSN group of services rebranded as the Windows Live services in 2006.

2005 (Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 Beta)

This was the original logo of Internet Explorer 7 during beta phase before being later changed.

2006-2011 (Windows Internet Explorer 7 - 8)

IE6

Microsoft Internet Explorer was rebranded as Windows Internet Explorer during the release of Windows Vista. The icon has been overhauled to have a gold orbit instead of a blue one. This logo was used for IE7 and IE8. It was rebranded as Windows Internet Explorer due to the launch of Windows Live. As of today, IE 8 remains as the most popular browser along with IE 11.

2011-2015 (Windows Internet Explorer 9 - Internet Explorer 11)

IE9

While the same elements are used, the IE9 logo is noticeably different from the IE8 logo. This logo is used as the IE10 and IE11 Desktop mode icon. [1][2]

2012-2015 (Internet Explorer 10 - 11)

This logo is used for the Metro/Modern UI style version of Internet Explorer 10 and 11 on Windows 8.x and Windows RT. Also used on Windows Phone since Internet Explorer 9. Notice that this logo also looks a lot like the 1997 logo, which used to be flat 2D.

In Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 10049, The default browser was changed to IE's successor browser called Microsoft Edge.
