The icon was first appeared on Instagram v2.0, released on September 20, 2011. The 2 other icons are still used on some websites and blogs.
On May 11, 2016, Instagram ditched its original polaroid-styled logo in favor of a modern interpretation. The new look was accompanied by an update of the application's interface. When the new look launch was unveiled, it proved a divisive figure as users initially expressed general distaste of the new logo.
In May 2013, Instagram introduced a new custom-made wordmark designed by Mackey Saturday.
On May 11, 2016, the wordmark's color changed to black following the launch of a new user interface and icon.
