Apple decided to scrap the "three lone eigth notes" idea, choosing instead to use a double eighth note.

2010–2012
On September 1, 2010, Apple launched iTunes 10. At the same time, they introduced a new logo and dropped the compact disc from their logo. The reasoning behind this, was that CD sales are falling and that iTunes was expected to surpass CD sales in the United States.[1] Finally, Apple reduced its compatibility to "the two leopards". The logo received poor reception from the designing community. The music note change from blue to black.
2012–2014
On November 29, 2012, Apple launched iTunes 11. Also they updated the logo, slightly changing the music note from black to gray, completely redesigning the interface as well.
2014–2015
On June 2, 2014, OS X 10.10 Yosemite was announced at WWDC, introducing this redesigned logo to match the iOS Music app.
2015–present
On June 8, 2015, OS X 10.11 El Capitan was announced at WWDC, and they updated the 2014 logo once more to launch in time with the new Apple Music service on July 1st.
