In the autumn of 2004, Hemköp introduced a new logo that would replace the logo with the smiling sun, which by then was over 20 years old. The new logo was created by Happy Forsman & Bodenfors and premiered in Stockholm on September 23, 2004.

Soon after the new logo was introduced, Axfood started converting the Spar stores in Sweden to Hemköp.
