In 1991, HBO 2 was launched on three cable systems in Wisconsin, Kansas and Texas, making HBO and Cinemax (which launched Cinemax 2 at the same time) the first premium services to offer multiplexed premium channel services to cable customers.

HBO Plus
1998–2002
In 1998, HBO 2 was rebranded as "HBO Plus", as part of a rebranding of HBO's multiplex channels as "HBO The Works".
HBO 2 (second era)
2002–present
In 2002, HBO Plus reverted back to the previous "HBO 2" name.
