Fox Searchlight Pictures was founded in 1994 but did not start using a logo until 1995. It is based on the 1987 20th Century Studios print logo. This logo was still used on the studio's Facebook profile and Walt Disney Studios’ official website, but it is replaced with the new Searchlight Pictures logo.

On January 17, 2020, it was announced Fox Searchlight Pictures would shorten its name to simply Searchlight Pictures, following Disney's purchase of 20th Century Fox's assets the year prior and likely to avoid confusion with the separate Fox Corporation. On the home video releases by 20th Century Studios Home Entertainment, Downhill was the first movie to use Searchlight Pictures' on-screen logo.
