Equinor

On May 15, 2018, Statoil changed its name to Equinor. The new name comes from the words “equi,” a prefix used in words like equal, equality and equilibrium, and “nor,” the official country code for Norway, signalling the company's Norwegian origin. The name Statoil means "State Oil" in Norwegian, so the new name also represents that Equinor is a public property. Another reason behind the name change was a move away from oil and other fossil fuels.
