The first-ever television station in Ecuador was launched on channel 4 in Guayaquil in 1960.

Different names had been used at the time, with "Telecuador" being the most common.

In 1961, channel 6 in Quito (HJCB-TV) was formed.

During this period, the channels were run by Norlop and ABC. In 1972, the channels were spun-off from both Norlop and ABC and remained owned indepedently until 2007.

This logo is similar to the one used by then-CBS affiliate WTVJ (also on channel 4, now an NBC owned-and-operated station on channel 6) in Miami, Florida.

In 1989, the channel started broadcasting in stereo.

TeleSistema[]

In 1990, Telecuatro was renamed to TeleSistema as the channel expanded nationwide before the name changed.

In 1993, Telecuatro Guayaquil would merge with ORTEL (owned by Albavisión) which led to TeleSistema returing to Quito on channel 5.
