In 1954, the St. Louis Browns moved to Baltimore to become the present-day incarnation of the Baltimore Orioles, reviving the name for the first time since 1901. The original Orioles was one of several previous major and minor league baseball clubs in Baltimore, one of whom was named the Orioles. It had since become the New York Yankees.
