Oppo first started out as a maker of music players, high-end DVD players and Blu-ray players for US and China market. They started to make mobile phones in 2008 but they were only available in China until later in 2013.

In mid-2013, the text became bolder, and the letter space was widened. At that time, Oppo started to bring its Android smartphones outside China. In 2018, Oppo stopped making DVD and Blu-ray players to focus more on their Android smartphones.
