Gateway 2000 was relaunched as simply Gateway on October 31, 1998 (4 months after Windows 98's release), giving birth to the now-iconic "cow block", referencing its Midwest heritage, and basing its mascots and packaging of the time off a Holstein dairy cow, which have been used since 1990.[1] Despite the introduction of the following logo in late 2002, this logo was still seen on relatively new computers around then until early 2003.

2002–2005[]

Launched:  September 30, 2002

On September 30, 2002, the Gateway logo received its first redesign since its 1998 rebrand, as it became more than a PC make. The logo "uses a computer "reset" button tipped on its side to resemble a capital "G.""[2] This logo was used in tandem with the next one, as it was still seen on computers around the time (one of them being the Gateway 566GE and Gateway Profile 5.5, both from 2005) until mid-late 2005.

“We wanted a logo to more accurately reflect where the company is today...”
Greg Lund, then-senior marketing manager at Gateway

Launched:  Mid-2004

In mid-2004, the iconic "cow block" was reintroduced, now in modernized form, along with a new font.

On August 27, 2007, it was announced that Acer would buy Gateway (which included the eMachines and Packard Bell brands),[3] a move that was completed on October 16 of the same year.

With the January 2013 CES, the Gateway brand was officially deactivated, alongside eMachines and Packard Bell.

In 2020, Acer's American division started licensing the brand to Shenzhen-based Bmorn Technology, reintroduced the Gateway-branded laptops and tablets to be sold mainly via Walmart. These devices were not produced, designed or manufactured by Acer as most of its products were rebadged of their existing EVOO branded laptops. [4]

As of November 2023, the original Gateway website (see below) now redirects to Acer's Legacy Product Support page. Despite this, Gateway still exists as one of the legal names of Acer.
