Founded in 1946, Alitalia was the state-owned flag carrier airline of Italy, and a member of the SkyTeam airline alliance since 2001. After years of mismanagement and financial losses, it was replaced by a new state-owned airline, Italia Trasporto Aereo (branded as ITA Airways), on 15 October 2021.
