Founded in 1946, Alitalia was the state-owned flag carrier airline of Italy, and a member of the SkyTeam airline alliance since 2001. After years of mismanagement and financial losses, it was replaced by a new state-owned airline, Italia Trasporto Aereo (branded as ITA Airways), on 15 October 2021.

Alitalia's first logo was the "Freccia Alata", an icon of speed.

On 15 October 2021, Alitalia was replaced by a new Italian state-owned airline: Italia Trasporto Aereo (branded as ITA Airways), which joined the SkyTeam alliance (of which Alitalia was a member) on 29 October, only two weeks after its launch.

This logo made an appearance in the film Red Notice (released in November 5, 2021), a month after its replacement as ITA Airways.
