"The Famous-Barr Co." was headquartered in St, Louis, MO. It was created in 1911 when parent owner May Department Stores merged its Famous Clothing Store (acquired in 1982) with The William Barr Dry Goods, Co. From 1911-2005 Famous-Barr served as the headquarters for May Department Stores, up until its acquisition by Federated Department Stores. The name was retired in 2006 when most stores were re-branded as Macy's.
