Alberta Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers began play as a charter team of the World Hockey Association, spending their first season (1972–73) as the Alberta Oilers; the original plan was for the team to split their time between Calgary and Edmonton in that season, but that never came to fruition, and the team was based in Edmonton only. For their second season (1973-74), the team name changed to the Edmonton Oilers. When the WHA merged with the National Hockey League in 1979, the Oilers moved to the NHL. This logo has been the only one used by their team, undergoing only minor design and colour changes along the way.
