Editora Abril was established in July 1950 in São Paulo by the Italian immigrant Victor Civita. The meaning of the name Abril (April in Portuguese & Spanish) denotes the first full month of spring in the northern hemisphere. The name also is a tribute to the publisher's brother, Cesar.
