First known logo faintly resembled head-on view of a railway coach.








1878-1879

Next logo hinted at the 'ball and bar' in the final logo.







1879-1881

CNW03

Third logo was a shield with slanted line and slanted letters.







1891-1902

CNW04

Hanging bars identified each subsidiary railroad.









1902-1944

CNW05

This logo became the official trademark. In Earlier designs the length of the bar was almost twice the height of the circle.









1944-1972, 1982-1995

CNW06

"Line" was changed to "System" in 1944. The famous "Mark of good transportation!".








1972-1982

CNW07

In 1972 The C&NW becomes “Employee Owned”, and the logo is changed. In 1982, stock is no longer reserved for employees. The logo reverts to the “System” wording.
