The original logo for Chicago's bid for the 2016 Olympics was unveiled in October 2006. It was designed pro-bono by VSA Partners. The "handle" is green and blue to represent Lake Michigan and the city's park, while the fire is a stylistic representation of the Chicago skyline.
Olympic rules forbid bid logos from including Olympic imagery, such as torches. In September 2007, a new logo was unveiled which replaced the torch logo.
