Canal Digital was created by joint venture between Norwegian telecommunications company Telenor and French Canal+ in 1997 to compete against Viasat. This allowed as well for Canal Digital AS to use Canal+ name and branding in the Nordic/Scandinavia.
On 2003, Canal+ left the venture and Telenor become the sole owner of the company. At the same year, Canal Digital AS was fused with its sibling Telenor Avidi AS resulted as new two companies named Canal Digital Satellitt AS and Canal Digital Kabel AS. Canal Digital Satellitt AS used the orange logo and Canal Digital Kabel AS used the blue one up until 2012.
