Blockbuster was founded in 1985. in 1995, to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Blockbuster, Blockbuster announced that Blockbuster Video will be renamed simply "Blockbuster", starting in 1996.

1996–2014
The word "Video" was dropped and they started calling it simply "Blockbuster", although older stores still use the previous logo. In 2011, all Blockbuster stores in Canada closed.
This logo is still used for Blockbuster Australia, one of the only remaining countries which still has store franchises.
On November 6, 2013, Dish Network Corp. (who acquired Blockbuster in 2011). However, the Blockbuster brand name will continue through the Blockbuster on Demand and Blockbuster @Home services.
On November 7, 2013, the company in some locations are defunct, but the stores are still present on a few states in the United States and the website is still up.
