Apoteket is a government-owned pharmacy chain in Sweden. It had a monopoly on pharmaceutical consumer retailing between 1970 and 2009, but since then competition has been allowed and much of the chain has been privatised.
The logo for Apoteket is a stylised snake over a bowl, two classical symbols of pharmacology. The logo was created in 1972.
In anticipation of the privatisation, Apoteket presented a new logo in June 2008. The old symbol is still there, but it has been simiplified and the snake has gotten its tounge removed. The new graphic identity was created by Happy Forsman & Bodenfors and was implemented over the following couple of years.
