Arts & Entertainment Network
A&E was formed in 1984 through the merger of ABC-Hearst's Alpha Repertory Television Service (ARTS) and RCA's The Entertainment Channel (at the time a sister network of NBC); its original name, the Arts & Entertainment Network, reflected this merging.
